Introduction to Worship

Worship is about God!

The center of our congregation’s life is the weekly gathering for worship. In this gathering, we turn our attention away from ourselves, our schedules, our pet grievances. We turn our attention to the One who made us, who calls us, who watches over and guides us day by day. In worship we remember who God is and what God has done. In worship we bring ourselves to God, with all our giftedness and brokenness, with all our faith and all our doubts, and open ourselves to the transforming power of the One who first loved us.

In our corporate worship we gather with praise and singing. We confess our sin and hear again of God’s abounding mercy and forgiveness given to us in Jesus Christ. We read God’s Word and reflect on what it means for our lives today. We pray…for ourselves, for others, and for the world. We respond to God with gratitude in the giving of our tithes and offerings and the dedication of our lives. Then nurtured and equipped by the Holy Spirit through our worship together, we go out into the world to continue our worship, as we love and serve God in every aspect of our lives.

In addition to Sunday worship, we have special services of worship on Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, and Maundy Thursday.

Homecoming is the second Sunday in October. Either a guest preacher or guest musicians help to make this day special in the life of FPC. But of course, what makes this day most special are the friends and family who join us. Recognition of those who have been members of FPC for 75 years is a highlight.
