Women of the Church News ——Kaye Coble, moderator The Women of the Church will meet on Tuesday, January 6 at 7:00 pm in the fellowship hall. All women are welcome and encouraged to attend our Bible study.

The Christian Women's Book Club will meet on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at 7:00 pm. The meeting schedule is the 1st and 4th Wednesdays through April 8. The books will be available in one week and the cost is $13.50. Questions contact Sandy Stutler.

New Year’s Day
There is a Southern saying that dictates eating habits in the Southern United States. “Eat poor on New Year’s; eat fat the rest of the year.” A traditional Southern New Year’s meal includes ham, corn bread, black-eyed peas and collard greens. Both back-eyed peas and collard greens are considered especially lucky additions to the dinner table. Black-eyed peas are thought to bring wealth because they look like coins, in addition to the fact that they swell when cooked—a sure sign of prosperity. Collard greens are considered lucky because they are green like greenbacks —money!
Last year the women’s circle prepared a traditional New Year’s Day meal for the church members to share together. We are planning to have this meal again on New Year’s Day. On Thursday, January 1, 2009, everyone is invited to come by anytime between the hours of 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm and enjoy this meal. I think all that attended last New Year’s meal not only enjoyed a delicious meal but really enjoyed the fellowship with one another. We hope to invite the community to join us in starting the new year. There will be no charge for the meal but donations will be accepted to go toward a community mission project.
Plan now to join us after the Christmas season. It will be a good way to start the new year. As a church family, we need to remain strong in our commitment to our God and our church.

A Flower Fund has been established to keep fresh flowers in the sanctuary for worship. Anyone wishing to reserve a Sunday please sign the Flower Calendar on the bulletin board in the hall at the ramp entrance. Anyone wishing to make a contribution to the “Flower Fund” to help keep fresh flowers in the sanctuary can make a donation and mark it “Flower Fund”. Our cost is $35 per Sunday.
