Ministries...First Presbyterian Church is a place where there is something for everybody. Our ministries and programs are inclusive to all ages. Not only will you find events for all ages, but also there is a place for everyone to serve. Our programs and ministries strive to be accepting of all people and we hope to communicate the Love of Jesus Christ. Women’s Ministry involves two circles that meet on the 1st Tuesday of every month at 2pm and 7pm. These circles are active in the life of the church, providing meals for bereaved families, leading a worship service, taking care of the church kitchen, and many other “behind the scenes” activities. Men’s Fellowship meets on the 4th Monday at 7pm. This is a gathering of men whose only purpose is to eat and fellowship. From time to time the group has a program of interest, but it is the laughter and support in fellowship that make this a unique gathering. Our Youth and Children’s programs are the flagship of our church. Every summer the church invests in an Extraordinary Vacation Bible School program that brings in the children of the Norwood Community. We also coordinate and host additional seasonal and enrichment programs though out the year for our children. Senior High Youth, grades 8-12, is an active group that participates in a balanced program of Worship, Enrichment, Ministry, and Fellowship. Senior Highs meet at 6:30pm on Sundays. Junior High Youth, grades 5-7, is an up and coming group full of energy and excitement. Junior Highs meet at 5pm on Sundays. Every summer the two groups combine to participate in a mission trip called the J.O.Y. School in which they minister to physically and mentally handicapped children in Pawleys Island, SC.For more information about our Youth Programs please visit our Youth page. First Presbyterian Church partners with Stanly County Community Ministries and the Norwood Ministerial Association to provide for the needs of our community. The Church also helps and coordinates with the Community Table II. Our local benevolence budget is often over spent because of the compassion we have for our neighbors and our desire to help. From late September to May on Wednesday nights at 7pm the church has a verse by verse Bible Study led by the pastor. This Bible Study’s purpose is to help people dive deeper into faith and provide opportunity for spiritual growth. As with most church congregations, First Presbyterians enjoy eating. Throughout the year the church hosts several fellowship events that provide opportunities for our members to show off their culinary gifts and to bring the people closer together. We have enjoyed having outdoor events so much so that we are in the process of building a picnic facility. The church also hosts events for family enrichment and encourages our members to participate in Christian conferences and events in our area. Our members are also involved in individual ministries throughout our community. These ministries range from helping elderly people do their shopping to delivering Meals on Wheels to conducting a Sunday school at motocross events.
